Moore Park was created as an exclusive suburb in the 19th century by John Moore, who built the Beltway rail line. The rail line is now defunct but has become a recreation trail that goes right through this leafy neighbourhood. An active CN line currently separates Moore Park from Rosedale to the south; the rest of the borders are all green spaces, including Moore Park and Vale of Avoca ravines and the prestigious Mt Pleasant Cemetery. Built in the 1900-1930s, the detached houses are primarily English Cottage, Georgian, and Tudor-style, sitting on large lots, many of which back onto a ravine. Many newer townhouses, duplex and multi-plex homes round out the neighbourhood. In addition to the ravine trails, residents enjoy Moorevale Park, with its tennis courts, baseball diamond, and wading pool. Evergreen Brickworks to the south, which was once an operating brick factory that produced the bricks for many of Toronto’s older buildings, is now a non-profit family oriented recreation centre, featuring seasonal farmer’s market, skating and a nature trail. Public schools include Whitney PS. The area is serviced by buses connecting with St Clair subway station, while Mt Pleasant Road provides quick access to downtown; also, the Don Valley Parkway is minutes away. |
